This tool performs a nonlinear P-delta analysis of a column with geometric imperfections or lateral loading. It demonstrates how axial compression amplifies bending moments beyond what first-order analysis predicts.
A fixed-base cantilever column with an out-of-straightness imperfection (a "warp" offset at a user-defined location). Under pure vertical load, the eccentricity produces a first-order moment P×e. The solver captures the second-order amplification as the column deflects further, increasing the effective eccentricity.
A pin-base, roller-top braced column with a lateral notional load at midspan. The notional load represents code-prescribed lateral forces (e.g., AISC Direct Analysis Method). The solver captures P-delta amplification of the midspan moment.
A pin-pin column with user-defined lateral restraints and initial L/1000 bow geometry between restraints. No lateral load — the bow is the imperfection. Adjacent segments bow in alternating directions (S-curve pattern). This demonstrates how lateral bracing changes the buckling mode shape and effective Euler load: more restraints → shorter effective length → higher Pe.
